Does this still exist?I had plans that we were going to use it in a couple of weeks but on looking for the timetable and pick up points I can't find the information. All links to it's website no longer exist. I found information about it on Mall's website so clicked on the link on their page to the website and it says the page no longer exists. So had a look around the Getawayla.org website, which used to contain all the info and no mention of the Ocean Express any more.Anyone know if it's still going? Staying at an LAX hotel for one night. We won't have a and won't be hiring a.
Really prefer something (like that shuttle) that stops at a few places where we can get off and have a look around, a shop, something to eat, toddle on to the next stop.We will be jet lagged and tired, so really don't want to have to think much. I think that was the good thing about that shuttle. As a tired tourist on a brief stopover, it really was quite handy to just get on outside the hotel and spend a good part of the day at a few different stops. We have done it before and liked it.I'm wondering if there is a public bus where we don't have to make bus changes to go to a mall somewhere? Where we can go to a mall, have a wander around the pier etc.I think the Hop on, Hop off bus picks up from LAX hotels?

And takes into to get on another Hop on Hop off Bus. Will look at that possibly too if it does pick up at LAX hotels.I think I saw a Flyaway shuttle too that picks up from LAX and goes to somewhere like Hollywood, where we may be able to go and have a look around, but not familiar with where it stops if that's an option. All summer the Ocean Express Shuttle was running every half hour from 9 am to 9:30 PM. Price was $5 pp r/t. Seems it is cheaper with the popularity of Uber, for a family of 4 to take you to the Pier or the Village Mall, for about $10 without having to wait for the next shuttle. The shuttle only had two stops, the Pier area, then over to the Village Mall near Tommy Bahama's and Macy's, before heading back to the hotels on Century Blvd. The Ocean Express had a good 10-12 year run, and was funded by the Gateway hotels, so their guests had somewhere 3 mi away to shop and dine. Uber can be in front of a hotel in a few minutes, and more and more people are using that service for everything now.Mumsattraveller, download the app on your phone at home and set up an Uber account. Thanks CAnative for the suggestion.I won't be using uber or Lyft but thanks for the suggestion. I won't have a US phone number which I heard they want to contact you. I also won't have data when I arrive in the country, so once out, don't want to have to be concerned with finding a wifi hotspot just to get transportation and if there isn't any near by, be stuck.
I understand it may be awesome for locals, but not all tourists are geared up with local phone numbers and data. It's not something we use at home so really not something we want to use overseas for the first time.I'd really prefer to use Taxis where we can go to a taxi stand or have a hotel call them or use some type of bus, wether it be local, tour, shuttle etc.We used the Ocean Express on a previous trip and thought it was great. Had a really lovely time at the stop for a couple of hours and had some lunch and then went for a bit of shopping at the Mall.
Before going back for a sleep and flying. So that's really the sort of thing we are looking at doing this time as we will just be there for a day, but will be arriving Midnight on our body clock so will be up literally all night for our body clock, so really want something that we don't have to think much. Get on a bus, get off at a stop, get back on when finished and go to another stop etc before it takes us back to the hotel.
From your hotel, It's a short walk to the LAX Bus Center (the bus plaza ourside of the grounds of the airport on the corner of 96th St and Vicksburg Av).R3 buses depart every 20 minutes and head toward downtown Santa Monica which is 32 minutes away. The fareis $1.25. Downtown Santa Monica is packed with dining and shopping.Be aware of the Timetable.
Evening R3 buses stop running between seven and 7:30 PM depending on the day. However the regular Santa Monica #3 bus runs until the late evening (ordinarily the number three is slower than the R3 but in the evening traffic is so sparse that the 3 works perfectly fine).
Both buses follow the exact same route. Be aware of coarse that the bus runs in two directions so be sure to get on the correct direction when you are returning to your hotel Edited: 2 years ago. The only problem with the Flyaway into is that it's not what you requested.
You said:'We really want something that we don't have to think much. Get on a bus, get off at a stop, get back on when finished and go to another stop etc before it takes us back to the hotel.' The Hollywood Flyaway option is actually a 2-step transfer with limited options:a. You'll need to arrange for (or, at least wait for) your hotel's shuttle bus to take you to LAX. Then, at LAX.b.
You'll need to eitheri. Get off at terminal #1 - the first terminal at the airport and then wait for the Flyaway (which runs only once per hour!) which will then stop at many, if not all, of the other terminals picking up passengers.orii. Ride the hotel's shuttle bus around the airport (wasting a lot of time, stopping at a number of terminals) and finally, getting off at terminal 8 (the last terminal at the airport) and then wait for the Hollywood Flyaway bus which runs only once per hour.

Keep in mind that if you select this second option, the Flyaway might drive past you (if no one needs to get off at the terminals at which the hotel's shuttle stops). Then, the Flyaway makes only one stop in Hollywood. It is on Vine Street, just south of Hollywood Bl. This isn't a bad option for you - lots of restaurants along Cahuenga Bl - 1 block west of Vine Street. How do I post a question on the Forum?
